Nestled in the Val d’Ossola, just a few kilometers from the original Domodossola facility, is Manifattura Domodossola. Surrounded by ten thousand square meters of gardens and built entirely of steel and glass, it is one of Italy’s longest-standing family businesses. Founded in 1913 as a factory producing naval ropes and trimmings, it now represents excellence in the weaving of leather, textile fibers, and even copper for fashion and design. The entire production chain is housed within the factory’s eight thousand square meters, all waiting to be explored. From braiding to large looms, from leather processing to waxing threads for over a million meters of woven material annually, all carried out with skill by four generations of artisans.

Belts, leashes, woven patterns for designer sofas, trims for the interiors of luxury yachts — all of this comes from a business story that began more than 110 years ago in Domodossola. In 1913, the factory produced ropes for ships and trimmings, and Giuseppe Polli envisioned a future built on weaving. He bought the factory and, together with his sons, survived two wars, expanding the business of “rope-making, twisting, braiding, and dyeing,” as still written on the façade of the historic headquarters.
In the 1980s, his grandson Giuseppe introduced mechanized production for elastic belts — before that, everything was done by hand. Ten years later came the large looms capable of creating entire woven mats from leather, textile fibers, and copper. Today, over a million meters of woven material in different colors are produced each year, coming together to form new patterns and textures.
Production is 100% made in Villadossola, because inside the modern facility inaugurated in 2007 — built entirely of glass and steel and surrounded by more than 10,000 square meters of parkland — every stage of the weaving process takes place.
Today, the company is led by Giulia and Silvia Polli, the fourth generation — entirely female (80% of the staff are women) — who have developed two lines: one dedicated to luxury leather goods (Athinson) and one to interior design (Oxilla), both exported to over sixty countries worldwide. Innovation and the development of new products never stop: natural raw materials such as cork and linen continue to fuel the magic of weaving, allowing for every smallest and most unique detail to be realized.
