Armani/Silos is the permanent exhibition space inaugurated in 2015 in celebration of Giorgio Armani's 40th anniversary. Built in 1950, the building was originally a barn and currently - following a renovation project envisioned and overseen directly by the designer - is spread over four levels with an area of about 4,500 square meters.
Giorgio Armani's predilection for simplicity and rigor have resulted in an architecture where essentiality gets rid of the superfluous, responding rationally to functional needs, always respecting the nature of the place. The intervention, in fact, preserved the curious original shape of the building, which resembles that of a beehive.
The space hosts temporary exhibitions - dedicated to fashion, photography, architecture and design - and the permanent collection that traces almost 50 years of the designer's creations, from 1980 to the present day, of the Giorgio Armani collections. The selection is divided according to certain themes that have inspired and continue to inspire the designer's work.
In addition to the exhibition, the space also offers a bookshop, a cafeteria, and a digital archive dedicated to researchers and enthusiasts who wish to learn more about Giorgio Armani's work and stylistic universe. Located on the top floor, the archive can be consulted free of charge and uses a cataloging system developed specifically for Armani/Silos. Workstations, touch screen tables and a projection area are the tools made available to the public for consultation and study.
