Behind every theatrical performance there is not only the work of those who are applauded on the stage. Away from the spotlight work costume designers, set designers, carpenters, sculptors ... Everything that will be on the stage of the most beautiful theater in the world, La Scala, was born here, in what was the headquarters of one of the largest industrial complexes in the city, the former Ansaldo . Which is now a forge that no longer produces trains but culture and which houses sixty thousand stage costumes.

Via Bergognone, 34, Milano (Milano)
Created to give a common place to all the wonders that take shape at the Piermarini's shows. The Laboratories of La Scala Theater, inside the imposing former Ansaldo steel mills, have housed since 2001 the workshop, the carpentry shop, the assembly and sculpture department for set design, and the tailoring of the great dresses worn on stage. A creative microcosm spread over the more than 20,000 square meters of pavilions named after the greats who have passed through La Scala in Milan: director Luchino Visconti, set designer Nicola Benois and costume designer Luigi Sapelli. The engine of the stage comes alive inside the old Milanese industry. In the archive, more than sixty thousand stage costumes. A space that tells the story of a theater, its protagonists and the more than one hundred and fifty people who work together to fascinate audiences.
