Laboratorio / Atelier

Around the most elegant parts of Rome, in the Parioli district, a stone's throw from the Belgian embassy, there’s the Sartoria Litrico. A historical interlude of the Dolce Vita has gone through the test mirror that is still used in the atelier today, together with the furniture made by the artists who have lived there since 1951, when Angelo Litrico opened his first workshop in Via Sicilia. From Vittorio Gassman to the American President Kennedy, from Andreotti to Mastroianni, a fixture of tailor-made men's haute couture that’s been as inspirational as Valentino and Renato Balestra. Here, the magic of the past can be found in the precious archive (recognised by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage) and in the atmosphere of an artisanal workshop, which – like 70 years ago – welcomes customers to create the perfect suit, as if they were in their own living room.

Sartoria Litrico

Via Michele Mercati, 35, Roma (Roma)

It is 1951 in Rome when Angelo Litrico, a Sicilian tailor with the dream of dressing the world’s great figures, founded his own atelier. With dedication and skill, Litrico quickly won over the international elite, becoming one of the most respected names in men’s high fashion. Among his clients were personalities such as John F. Kennedy, Marcello Mastroianni, and Nikita Khrushchev, for whom he created the famous coat during the Cold War.

The atelier—today led by the third generation with Luca Litrico—continues its tradition of excellence, combining classic elegance and innovation, with made-to-measure creations, garments crafted entirely in Italy from Italian and English fabrics, and for the inimitable linings, Bemberg. By his side, the care and creativity of his wife Stefania—trained at the Academy of Fine Arts—and a team of collaborators who over the years have developed the Litrico style, expanding the business to include footwear and a line of perfumes.

Today, the Historical Archive of Sartoria Litrico is recognized as a Cultural Heritage Site of National Historical Interest.
