Calzaturificio Paolo Scafora
Via Tavernola, 8, Casandrino (Napoli)

Laboratorio / Atelier
In the alleys of industrial Naples in 1956. The story of the Scafora family was born here, while making shoes entirely by hand. From the cutting of the finest leathers to the mounting; sewn and painted, as if each pair was a small work of art. Paolo Scafora passes on his father Gennaro's passion and transforms it into continuity. With him, the creative shoemakers wear the apron of the trade, while the tables are filled with hammers, pliers, brushes and the laboratory is infused with the smell of leather. More than three hundred manufacturing steps are needed to create a shoe. If Naples is home, in particular Casandrino, where the heart of the business and the showroom are located, whatever takes shape here travels and is known all over the world: from Paris to New York.

The family's craftsmanship began in the alleys of Naples back in 1956. That of Calzaturificio Scafora is a story of generations of industrious men. From Gennaro, the eldest of eight brothers, who began working as an apprentice in the stores in the center of Naples and became passionate about creating footwear. In the 1970s he opened his own workshop dedicated to leather soles, naming it after one of his four sons, Paolo. He will be the one to resume his love for handmade footwear by going to Milan to study patternmaking, then all the way to Australia. The final destination is in his hometown, where he resumes the business together with his brothers, becoming a reference point for handmade footwear, among resins, hammers and the scent of leather.
