Giuditta Brozzetti

In the oldest Franciscan church in Perugia, in via Tiberio Bernardi, you breathe the story of many women. First a monastery, then a convent, an institute for poor girls, a spinning mill and a pottery factory - since 1996, the deconsecrated church of San Francesco delle Donne has been the HQ of the Giuditta Brozzetti Laboratory, now helmed by her great-granddaughter Marta Cucchia. The holy grail of hand-weaving, where ancient jacquard looms from the 1700s and 1800s are still in operation. The sound of the looms, the light reflected in the high 13th century vaults and the color of the fabrics stretched on the looms create a special and sacred harmony.
