Marella Ferrera

Museo Laboratorio / Atelier

In the historical center of Catania, where Piazza Duca di Genova and Via Museo Biscari meet, there is one of the most important private palaces in the city, Palazzo Biscari. Built at the end of the eighteenth century and now a symbol of Sicilian Baroque, the sumptuous building houses the headquarters of Marella Ferrera Museum & Fashion, which consists of the Museum of Fashion, the Museum of Grace, the World of Fashion and the atelier of haute couture by the designer. Hailed as the revelation of the year at Alta Moda in 1993, the Catania-born designer still turns fabric into art using materials such as lava stone, obsidian, terracotta, rock crystal and copper wires to tell the story of her island.

After studying design in Rome and Milan, Marella Ferrera founded her brand in Catania in 1993, creating clothes that blend art, history and craftsmanship. His collections are famous for the use of unconventional materials such as lava, lava stone, cork and ceramic, elements that recall the culture and landscape of his homeland. In addition to fashion, Marella is also the curator of exhibitions and cultural projects, which, like her sartorial creations, are often a tribute to Sicilian identity and contemporary elegance.
