Lungarno Guicciardini, one of the palaces that once belonged to the Medici. Push open the door and there is a deconsecrated church, which Enrico Coveri has turned into an art gallery. There is everything in the palace, even the tailor's shop where the seamstresses still sew the sequins that are a work that is done with knitting needles: a straight, a reverse, and on the third stitch that colored plastic rod... Even today as in 1977 when, at Coveri's first fashion show in Paris, Le Figarò wrote, “Sequins are to Coveri as chains are to Chanel.” A journey through the fashion of the designer defined as: “King of Colours” in the first biography signed by Silvio Balloni, published by Gruppo Editoriale, a book wanted by the fashion house and the Coveri family to celebrate his activity in the year (2024) when he would have turned 72.

Lungarno Guicciardini, 19, Firenze (Firenze)

Revolutionary sequins, color blocking and contagious vivacity. These are some of the elements that identify Enrico Coveri. Child fashion prodigy born in Prato in 1950, adopted by the Florentine beauty where he attended the Academy of Fine Arts and fell in love with theater costumes. At twenty-five he presented his first collection in Paris: one of "the most beautiful" according to the Herald Tribune of 1978. Years in which the Tuscan designer of joie de vivre defined his style with an explosion of colors and creativity inspired to the lessons of his favorite artists such as Marc Chagall, Henri Matisse, Joan MirĂ² and street art. Andy Warhol himself portrayed Coveri in 1983, placing him among the group of Italian stylists who conquered the world of fashion in that decade. Characters such as Liza Minelli, Joan Collins, Michael Jackson and Lady Diana loved his playful style which in the 1980s, in addition to the catwalks, would also color sportswear, jeans, baby, home design and perfume lines. Since 1990, following Coveri's death, the brand has been led by his sister Silvana and nephew Francesco Martini. On the Lungarno Guicciardini in Florence, in a palace that belonged to the Medici family, the soul and non-conformist energy of the stylist can be found, in all his palettes (and sequins) and in all the shots with the smiles of the models that he called by their first names.
