Museo del Tessuto di Prato

Museum

A game of contradictions. Inside the medieval walls of the city of Prato, you can see a high chimney. It belongs to the ancient nineteenth-century factory ‘Cimatoria Campolmi Leopoldo e C.’, an industrial textile archeology monument, which today is the Textile Museum. From the most ancient fabrics (from the 3rd century) to textiles that come from as far as Yemen, to contemporary clothes and accessories. Don’t miss the artist's sketches and fabrics made by Giò Ponti, Pomodoro and Bruno Munari. And, of course, textile machinery and precious archives. It’s Italy’s largest cultural center dedicated to textile production - all in the heart of the Tuscan district.
During the 2023 edition of ApritiModa you will be able to discover precious twentieth-century kimonos in the exhibition "KIMONO - Reflections of art between Japan and the West". An exclusive exhibition in collaboration with the Museum of Fashion and Applied Arts of Gorizia, which has obtained the prestigious patronage of the Japanese Embassy in Italy.
