Lis Furlanis

Laboratorio / Atelier

The house is all white, set over two floors. Behind the house, in Gonars, there’s the shed and with it, the discovery of a world: shelves full of colored fabrics, bicycle tires, jute bags, pizza boxes... It’s the world of the shoes that Lis Furlanis makes all by hand, to the same exacting standards used in the nineteenth century. Though furlane count George Clooney among their fans, they’re actually a symbol of a poor domestic economy, based on strength, resistance and dignity - in their laboratory, Massimo and Cristina make furlane using that same technique. Each shoe is a unique piece and no furlana is alike.

Since 2015 in Friuli, in Gonars, there are those who still make Friulian cakes as tradition dictates. Lis Furlanis (which in Friulian means Le Friulane, a tribute to footwear and the women who have produced and worn them for centuries) was born from an ambitious project: that of creating shoes using recycled materials and traditional equipment, maintaining a simple and cost-effective production process. low energy impact. Made with remnants of fabrics recovered from other processes, Lis Furlanis shoes are unrepeatable: one pair will never be the same as another.
