… and after ten editions we can proudly say it: ApritiModa's days are the true days of Made in Italy. This year too, one hundred companies, scattered across Italy, threw open their doors to free visits by the public. These were authentic, real days, not theatre sets or runways built for the few. Not exclusive, invitation-only events reserved for VIPs and celebrities. Quite the opposite: open places, democratic, inclusive days. Founded on work, just like our Constitution.
We have always believed that strength lies in the union of differences. And so the doors were thrown open by the very big and the very small; by the famous and by those who work in the shadows. Because everyone is part of a single system, and if some did not exist, the others would not either. We did not want the public to see the dress, but the process that leads to the dress. And so you were able to discover wonderful stories.
You entered the control rooms, where fabrics, zippers, trimmings, hats, perfumes, ties, cufflinks, umbrellas are born… You saw the hands of those who make embroidery, build jewellery, create fabrics, bags, shoes, or design wonderful clothes.
This is the chain behind Made in Italy, these are the invisible crafts that have an inestimable value. What we have done in these ten years is make them visible.
When we started, we were mostly curious. We liked the idea of discovering what lay behind the doors of fashion. But little by little we understood how important it is to tell the story of Italy through its know-how. And how essential it is to create the future of that know-how. Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, speaking precisely about artificial intelligence, said that the millionaires of the future will be plumbers and blacksmiths. He forgot the embroiderers, the weavers, the tailors…
